Outer Banks Activities

Did you know that you can ride horses on the beach?
Join Equine Adventures (252-995-4897) and experience a new family tradition for the holidays – horseback riding on the beach!
Equine Adventures will guide you through trails on a 2 hour adventure to the only Maritime Forest on the Outer Banks, including the Buxton Woods, the NC Coastal Reserve, and the National Park Service. As we come out of the woods and cross the last sand dune before the beach, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point are just off to the left. Miles of pristine beaches await us, and our horses! Ride with us and you will see the natural beauty of Hatteras Island from a completely different perspective.
We offer a two hour guided tour to the beach YEAR ROUND! It is approximately 45 minutes through the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and the Maritime Forest out to the beach. We ride along the ocean for 30 minutes Then it is 45 minutes back through the woods to the barn. We usually see a variety of wildlife depending on the time of year.
Equine Adventures was established in 2001. Owner and operator Sylvia Mattingly has over 25 years of horse experience. All of our guides have many years of experience with horses and pride themselves on keeping their riders safe and the horses happy. Safety of our guests is our number 1 priority.
Our horses are well seasoned and carefully chosen for each rider. Each horse is like family and they are well taken care of. They are fed quality grain and have access to hay and water 24/7. They receive regular veterinarian care, the farrier comes every 6 weeks and they even have a saddle fitter that sees each horse twice a year. We are closed Sundays in the summer in ensure each horse gets a day off. We ride during the coolest parts of the day (early morning and late afternoon) and the horses are relaxing the rest of time. After a ride our horses are showered off to cool them down and to rinse off the sweat and sand.
Guests and locals alike, will enjoy experiencing the natural wonder of the Outer Banks with a unique perspective on the back of a beautiful horse!
